As the campaign ramps up, you might notice something missing on your street: my campaign signs. I have made the strategic decision to skip lawn signs entirely, and I want to explain why.
Printing my name in a huge font on a piece of plastic doesn’t tell you anything about my personal values and my ability to manage a multi-billion-dollar municipal infrastructure portfolio.
We need to stop treating local government like a popularity contest and start treating elections like job interviews.
My campaign is built on the core principle of “Substance Over Visibility”. Instead of cluttering our neighbourhoods with temporary signs and relying on passive name recognition, I am committed to personally handing out my old-school, plain-text resume at every door in Ward 3 for your consideration.
I view my future relationship with you as that of an employee to an employer, where I am approachable, transparent, and entirely answerable to you for every decision I make or participate in.
Rest assured, I am committed to dedicating the next four years of my life to this mandate and will make myself available to the community outside typical business hours (as early as 5:00 a.m. for those who are up before sunrise and as late as 10:00 p.m. for parents with young families) including weekends and statutory holidays.
With my pledge to donate 100% of any compensation I receive as your Regional Councillor, I am offering my expertise to the community (my employer for this role) as a true public service.
Why? Because doing things the right way matters more to me than “winning”. I didn’t register myself as a candidate for bragging rights either. I stepped forward because I am confident about making a real difference.
I am ready to do all the heavy lifting to advance your interests, balance diverse community needs with affordability and fiscal responsibility, and be a proactive, rather than active or passive, voice at the Council table.
All I ask in return is that you step out and spare 30 minutes of your time on Monday, October 26, to give me an opportunity to walk the talk and demonstrate true stewardship.
I invite you to learn more about my professional background and make an informed decision at the ballot box: https://salmanzafar.ca/professional-background/
If, for any reason whatsoever, you feel I am not the right fit for the job, I encourage you to still go out and vote for other candidates.
The last thing our community needs is apathy toward the tangible municipal services we all experience on a daily basis that ultimately impact our quality of life.
Sincerely,
Salman Zafar
