MY CORE PRINCIPLES
Milton’s rapid growth demands more than empty promises and the same old political rhetoric. We need a technical expert at the Council table who knows how to cut through the red tape, navigate the system, and deliver real results.
After more than a decade navigating the complexities of local government as a municipal infrastructure asset management practitioner, I know what it takes to build a community that thrives both today and tomorrow. The core principles outlined below are not just campaign slogans. They are the professional standards I will use to cut through the noise to deliver substance over political gimmicks and photo-ops, prioritize evidence over populism, and ensure every tax dollar is spent strategically to demonstrate long-term responsibility by looking beyond the four-year election cycle to ensure sustainable service levels for all Miltonians.
1. Substance Over Visibility
Real Experience
True leadership is not about political visibility; it is about focusing on the core value drivers that actually impact the public, such as delivering reliable services, keeping property taxes sustainable, and managing our local infrastructure assets effectively. Currently, Milton is enjoying an infrastructure honeymoon phase having built a massive network of new roads and facilities within a highly compressed 25-year window to accommodate growth. Because these assets were built simultaneously, they will eventually reach the end of their lifespans at the exact same time, triggering a wave of required rehabilitation and replacement costs.
I bring over 13 years of relevant experience as a Municipal Practitioner to the Council table to deliver tangible results. My educational background in public policy, economics and mathematical modelling, and extensive professional experience in infrastructure asset management acquired through advancing the interests of the Ontario municipalities over the years have equipped me to fully understand and critically evaluate the complexity of data and scenario analysis undertaken by staff to bring forward investment recommendations to Council.
Real experience means knowing that cutting maintenance budgets and failing to invest in climate resilience infrastructure for short-term political optics inevitably leads to premature failures and much higher replacement costs down the road. I recognize that past decisions, such as focusing heavily on residential subdivisions without keeping pace with commercial development, have disproportionately shifted the tax burden on the homeowners. As your Regional Councillor, I will scrutinize municipal expenditures with the same rigorous standards budget-conscious homeowners will apply to keep household expenses under control, demanding transparency and objective decision-making criteria from staff and undertaking public consultations before any tax dollars are committed. I encourage you to read the educational articles I have recently published on fiscal sustainability to increase public awareness.
My technical experience is only valuable as an elected official if I am able to translate my expertise into operationalizing best practices while meeting community expectations and affordability. Effective local governance requires breaking down dense technical reports into plain language so Miltonians can actually participate in shaping the future of our community. To ensure this level of transparency, I will proactively host public consultation sessions prior to future Council meetings to review staff recommendations and ensure your feedback drives the decisions made by Council.

True Stewardship
I am not a career politician looking for a paycheck. I am running to redefine political leadership by grounding it in technical expertise, community service, and true stewardship. Political leadership at the municipal level should never be a career or a financial opportunity. It should be an act of pure community service. When our residents are being forced to make difficult financial sacrifices, elected officials must lead by example. Alongside competence and relevant expertise, having no expectation of financial compensation is a fundamental dimension of true stewardship.
Staying committed to my philosophy of true stewardship, I pledge to donate 100% of my compensation as Regional Councillor to local food banks and charities. I am excited to support the frontline organizations that serve us all. To ensure I am supporting a wide variety of community needs, each year I will distribute my 26 bi-weekly paychecks evenly across these 13 organizations (i.e. two full paychecks per organization):
- Milton District Hospital Foundation
- North Halton Hospice (Townsend Smith Foundation)
- Milton Meals on Wheels
- Halton Women’s Place
- Wesley
- Milton Transitional Housing
- Milton Navy League Cadets
- Reach Out Centre for Kids (ROCK)
- Community Living North Halton
- The Salvation Army Khi Community
- MAM Food Bank
- Milton Halal Food Bank
- Sustainable Milton
2. Evidence Over Populism
Data Driven Decisions
Every tax dollar must be spent transparently using an objective, auditable framework. A municipality can pass a perfectly balanced budget on paper while its physical infrastructure continues to fall behind. To protect taxpayers from escalating future funding liabilities, we must pivot to data-driven decision-making criteria by:
- Evaluating every new infrastructure project based on target service levels established through active community engagement, anticipated total lifecycle costs and the associated long-term tax implications. I will ensure we don’t build things today that our community cannot afford to maintain tomorrow.
- Eliminating the budgeting blind spot as standard accounting only tracks historical costs of assets built or purchased decades ago, not the true costs of replacing an asset today. I will ensure our budgeting reflects the true, current cost of keeping our infrastructure in a state of good repair to avoid sudden, unplanned tax hikes.
- Enforcing regulatory compliance, whether it is commercial truck routing or local safety bylaws. I will ensure proactive audit of compliance reports and use every available municipal enforcement mechanism to keep our community safe.
Strategic Alignment
Financial decisions must always align with community expectations, true affordability, and a shared long-term vision. This means tackling difficult issues proactively, ensuring that growth pays for growth and development is matched by adequate infrastructure. I will ensure strategic alignment by:
- Shifting away from the culture of reactive problem-solving. Spending a relatively smaller amount on proactive maintenance and timely lifecycle interventions today can prevent spending millions on premature asset replacements tomorrow.
- Advocating for cost-recovery tools ensuring that heavy industrial operators and new developments pay their fair share for the increased wear-and-tear on our municipal infrastructure assets.
- Strategically investing in community housing and local emergency shelters to protect our community from downstream healthcare and emergency response costs.
Growth That Fits Our Roads
Milton has grown from 31,000 to over 157,000 residents in just over two decades. Yet, new housing subdivisions continue to be approved much faster than the highly expensive transportation and utility infrastructure required to support them.
- I will enforce a policy that ties new subdivision approvals directly to our current capacity to meet demand. This will ensure necessary upgrades are built before residents move in, rather than simply reacting to growth and playing catch-up with gridlocked traffic and strained municipal services.
3. Long-Term Responsibility
Intergenerational Equity
Intergenerational equity means distributing the cost of our infrastructure ($3.6 Billion for Town of Milton) fairly across all the generations who actually benefit from it. It’s a common misconception that this requires immediate tax hikes. In reality, it’s about responsible long-term planning.
Putting the right strategies in place today is how we protect both current and future residents from massive, sudden tax spikes when these local assets reach end of their lifespan.
Equity in Service Delivery
To provide equitable services and address the evolving needs of our growing, diverse community, I will utilize demographic and socioeconomic trends with spatial equity mapping to:
- Establish minimum acceptable service levels across all neighbourhoods in Milton.
- Promote active living for seniors with free access to transit and gym.
- Expand youth and senior programs to 12 hours a day, year-round to enhance quality of life for all.
- Build new sports fields to support physical and mental well-being.
- Install additional play structures in neighbourhoods with young families.
- Optimize transit routes for better connectivity to jobs, schools, hospitals, and places of worship.
- Designate land for new faith-based cemeteries to support families in honouring their cultural and religious traditions locally.
- Invest in community housing & long-term care to support vulnerable residents and reduce the strain on local emergency and healthcare systems.
- Enhance by-law enforcement alongside public education to uphold shared community standards.
Climate Resilient Infrastructure
Local climate hazards are causing municipal infrastructure to fail prematurely. Historically, municipalities plan for “like-for-like” replacements of their assets, failing to factor climate adaptation into asset design or functionality. This outdated approach creates a continuous financial drag, a cycle where municipal reserves are constantly drained by reactive emergency replacements.
Instead of waiting for costly infrastructure failures, I will priorItize investing in climate change mitigation and adaptation initiatives to protect our environment and limit unplanned tax hikes.
Proactively investing in climate adaptation will lead to sustainable services and long-term cost savings for our taxpayers.
