When we look at local governance, the true measure of leadership isn’t keeping taxes artificially low for a single term. It’s having the courage to facilitate honest conversations with residents about trade-offs.
Infrastructure is the backbone of our municipal services. When renewals and maintenance are deferred simply for political convenience, it creates an infrastructure deficit. That deficit is essentially a hidden tax passed directly onto the next generation.
We need to shift the conversation. Instead of only asking, “What is the tax rate?”, we need to ask: “What value are we delivering, and how do we sustainably fund the services we rely on every single day?”
It is time to bring evidence, foresight, and long-term financial responsibility back to the Council table. Let’s plan for our future responsibly.
